Quick Vanilla Custard Recipe with Custard Powder

This delicious dessert is a staple at my home for every festival and dinner party. It's especially popular during Diwali when guests love indulging in it. I first tried making this recipe back in grade 11, and it was a major flop! Although it's a simple recipe, over time, I've learned the trick to achieving the perfect thickness without any lumps.
Simple Custard Recipe
Ingredients
2 cups whole milk (can also use almond or soy milk for a dairy-free option)
2 tbsp vanilla custard powder
2-3 tbsp granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
Instructions
Mix Custard Powder and Sugar: In a small bowl, combine the custard powder with 1/4 cup of the milk and stir until smooth. This will create a slurry and prevent lumps in your custard.
Heat the Milk: Pour the remaining milk into a saucepan and heat it over medium heat. Just before it reaches a boil, reduce the heat to low.
Add the Custard Mixture: Gradually add the custard powder mixture to the saucepan with the hot milk, whisking constantly.
Cook Until Thickened: Continue to cook, stirring constantly, until the custard thickens. This usually takes 2-3 minutes. Once the custard coats the back of a spoon, it’s ready.
Serve or Chill: Remove from heat. You can serve the custard warm, or cover it with plastic wrap directly on the surface to prevent a skin from forming, then let it cool in the refrigerator.

Serving Tips:

With fruits: Serve with sliced bananas, strawberries, or fresh mango.
As a filling: Use it in trifles, cakes, or tarts.
This is my go-to immediate dessert recipe, and I love it. You can even add a scoop of your favorite ice cream and indulge in it. Do try it and also experiment with this simple custard recipe.
