Potato rolls are a versatile and tasty dish that can be enjoyed as a snack or even as a dinner option.

I stumbled upon this crispy potato bread roll recipe during grad school, and it quickly turned into my culinary science experiment. After numerous failed attempts (and a few questionable outcomes), I slowly figured out the right mix of ingredients and techniques. My brother was the brave volunteer who tasted every version—bless his taste buds—and he didn’t hold back with his feedback.
Thanks to his blunt critiques and my stubborn determination, I eventually cracked the code. What started as a kitchen disaster evolved into a family favorite, complete with memories of trial, and error, and a whole lot of laughter.
Crispy Potato Bread Rolls Recipe Ingredients
8 slices of bread (white or whole wheat)
4 medium-sized potatoes, boiled and mashed
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 green chilies, finely chopped (optional)
1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
1/2 teaspoon garam masala
1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (optional)
Fresh coriander leaves, chopped
Salt to taste
Oil for frying
Water for sealing the rolls
Step 1: Prepare the Filling:
Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a pan over medium heat.
Add the chopped onions, green chilies, and ginger-garlic paste. Sauté until the onions turn golden brown.
Add the turmeric powder, garam masala, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.
Add the boiled and mashed potatoes and coriander leaves. Stir everything together and cook for 2-3 minutes until the mixture is well combined.
Turn off the heat and let the filling cool.
Step 2: Prepare the Bread Rolls:
Trim the edges of each bread slice.
Take a slice of bread and dip it briefly in water to make it moist. Be careful not to soak it too much.
Squeeze out excess water gently by pressing the bread between your palms.
Place a spoonful of the potato filling in the center of the bread.
Carefully roll the bread slice around the filling to form a cylinder or oval shape. Press the edges to seal the filling inside. Repeat with the remaining slices and filling.
Step 3: Fry the Rolls:
Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
Once the oil is hot, gently slide the prepared rolls into the oil.
Fry them in batches until they are golden brown and crispy, turning them occasionally to ensure even cooking.
Remove the rolls with a slotted spoon and drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil.
Step 4: Serve:

Serve the crispy potato bread rolls hot with ketchup, chutney, or any dip of your choice.
Enjoy your crispy potato bread rolls as a delicious snack or appetizer!
